50 years ago Martha Hill invented her range of skin products. Her philosophy was always based on feeding and nourishing the skin with natural products, that originated from old country recipes. It was when Martha found that the outdoor life of running her Guernsey cattle and organic farm was beginning to ruin her skin, she started investigating into country ways of looking after it, with a mixture of hand collected fruit and seaweed from a local beach and on to her face. It wasn’t until she reached her sixties, however, that she launched Martha Hill, her range of 100 per cent natural beauty care products, with no artificial fragrance, colour, or animal products. None of the range is tested on animals but volunteers, but all is thoroughly researched (honey and beeswax are however used liberally), so you can feel good inside and out.
Martha Hill was an extraordinary woman pioneering new practices in fashion (introducing knitted silk jersey in the 30’s from underwear and hosiery into dresses), employment (her female filled factories during WW11 in the 40’s were the first to put in Crèches, grocery stores and hairdressers) and farming (going organic as chemical pesticides swept the country in the 50’s) – as well as skincare. Martha Hill lived her life fully into her 90’s and was always her skincare’s best advert, and though her fashion boutiques in the Kings Road and Marylebone High Street have long since disappeared, she has bequeathed a wonderful legacy of natural skincare that can protect every skin type from the sensitive teenage skin through to the maturing skin that needs help repairing, damage and lines.
Today Martha Hill is run by her children and Grand Children.
